News Details SeaRenergy supports Ailes Marines in a consortium with Atos in constructing the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm and creates jobs in France

by Astrid Dose

Since 1 September 2020, SeaRenergy, in a consortium with Atos, has been working on the foundation and subsequent operation of a Marine Coordination Center (MCC) for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in Brittany.

SeaRenergy is providing a team with the relevant nautical experience, and is thus not only supporting the energy transition in France, but also creating local jobs.

The contracting entity is Ailes Marines, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, one of the top five largest energy suppliers in the world and market leader in the production of wind energy. The site of the wind farm is in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, about 16 kilometres away from the shore, in water depths of 29 to 42 metres.

The MCC will be in operation throughout the entire construction phase and will monitor the waters during the erection of 62 wind turbines with complex simultaneous processes.

The role of the Marine Coordination Center is to monitor and record all the activities and movements of all people, ships and other stakeholders within the wind farm and between the base port and the offshore construction site.

The marine coordinators in the MCC make sure that all the internal project specifications and statutory requirements for the protection of people, animals and the environment are met. This ensures the smooth, and above all safe, running of all activities at sea.

“We are proud to support Iberdrola in its first offshore wind farm project in France, by securing its wind turbines and by ensuring the production of renewable energy in compliance with statutory requirements. We are delighted to be one of the first contributors to the energy transition in France with our professional expertise and experience,” said Dr Benjamin Vordemfelde, CEO of SeaRenergy.
