WIN(D)SCHOOL 2025 – Building a sustainable future together

WIN(D)SCHOOL 2025 – Building a sustainable future together
Henning Scheffen

WIN(D)SCHOOL, an innovative educational project run by the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation with significant support and sponsorship from *** your company name***, set itself the task of getting young people interested in wind energy and actively helping to shape a sustainable future. The project has already achieved impressive results in collaboration with schools and is scheduled to run for three years from February 2024 to February 2027.

Looking back: Highlights in 2024

The year 2024 mainly featured inspirational school workshops and educational events such as Girls’ and Boys’ Day at the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation, the Ideen Expo trade fair in Hannover, one of the largest youth events in Europe, and the Gauß-AG holiday courses at Leibniz Universität Hannover. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of the WIN(D)SCHOOL sponsors and cooperation partners! A particular focus was on the practical school workshops, in which students from primary and secondary schools learn more about offshore wind energy in practical lessons. These workshops introduce students to the basics of wind energy. The kids are asked to build small turbines and foundations using miniature wind energy facilities, measure electrical current and experiment with rotor blade designs. Technical knowledge (foundations of offshore wind turbines, nature and environmental protection) round off the workshops.

Here are some of the most recent events:

•    Gauß-AG holiday courses at Leibniz Universität Hannover: This gave the school students an opportunity to test innovative offshore foundations in the Wave Current Flume and experience at first hand how engineering can be used to overcome the challenges of the energy transition.
•    School workshops in Hamburg: WIN(D)SCHOOL workshops reached different age groups, including the 6th grade class of the Ilse-Löwenstein district school with Nature & Technology as a compulsory elective course and the 9th grade class at the Rissen district school as part of their Climate Change course.

By the end of 2024, 609 pupils had already taken part in a total of 13 events, giving them valuable insights into the world of wind energy!

Planned activities for 2025

WIN(D)SCHOOL will continue to organise a varied programme in the first half of 2025 to recruit young people to the cause of wind energy:
•    E-world 2025 in Essen: WIN(D)SCHOOL is joining with REH, RWE and EEW to organise an expert panel entitled “Looking for Heroes of Wind Energy (m/f/o)”. This event aims to encourage school students and young adults to consider careers in the wind industry.
•    Student and Training Day at Deutsche Windtechnik on 25 February 2025: An entire day has been dedicated to practical career guidance under the motto “WIN(D)SCHOOL goes DWT!”. Participants can look forward to insights into the work of a leading company in the wind energy sector.

Public relations

WIN(D)SCHOOL’s new online presence is yet another milestone. The website has gone live and includes information and a contact form for interested schools. There is now also an Instagram channel to provide insights into ongoing activities and encourage interaction.

Conclusion

WIN(D)SCHOOL is far more than an educational project – it is a platform that inspires, informs and motivates young people to contribute actively to the energy transition. Looking back on a successful 2024 and forward to a promising programme in 2025, WIN(D)SCHOOL is optimistic about the future as well. It has joined with committed sponsors and motivated students to make a bold statement in favour of today’s education and energy supply in tomorrow’s world. 🌬️💡⚡
