Gasnetz Hamburg GmbH is fully owned by the city and operates the natural gas grid in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Around 230,000 customers are connected to the grid. The company has two locations, in Tiefstack and in Altona.
The grid comprises a total of approximately 7,900 kilometres of high-, medium- and low-pressure pipelines as well as house pipelines with around 160,000 connections. Around 20 billion kilowatt hours of energy are transported annually via the Gasnetz Hamburg grid. The entire grid, including its approximately 600 gas pressure control systems in the city area are controlled and monitored from a highly modern central control centre. 480 employees ensure the reliable and safe operation of Hamburg's gas grid – round the clock, seven days a week.
Gasnetz Hamburg's guiding principles: Our gas grid ensures a reliable supply of gas for citizens, businesses, and industries. Furthermore, the gas grid aims to make an affordable and sustainable contribution to climate protection and the energy transition in Hamburg.
