As one of two universities of the German Armed Forces, Helmut Schmidt University has been open to young cadets since its founding in 1972, of which 2,500 are currently undergoing academic studies as part of their education. In research, the HSU works closely with other Universities and research institutions in the metropolitan region of Hamburg.
The main topics of the 95 professors and 270 scientific staff members are a.o. renewable energies, mobility and logistics as well as medical and biotechnology. The Helmut Schmidt University is not only involved in the Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster Agency (EEHH-Cluster), but also in the Hamburg Aviation Cluster.
In addition to academic training as part of the officer's career, civilian students can be admitted to the HSU if they are funded by a cooperation company / authority / other institution and sent to HSU for academic training. The admission of students who pay the tuition fees themselves is not possible.
