Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Germany is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and Germany. Originally established in 1958 to promote Japanese exports abroad, JETRO's core focus in the 21st century has shifted toward promoting foreign direct investment into Japan and helping small to medium size firms maximize their global export potential. In our two German offices in Berlin and Düsseldorf we provide support to SMEs such as the organization of worldwide trade fair programs (PV-Sec, Agritechnica, PVJapan, Biwako Business Fair, Sewage Works Exhibition), market analysis and research, the promotion of economic partnerships and the setting-up of businesses in Japan. After the 3/11 earthquake renewable energies became a top issue in Japan. In July 2012 the Japanese government introduced a Feed-in-tariff (FIT) system, also including mechanisms from the German model. Since then e.g. PV-power capacities increased from 5,6 GW in June 2012 to 12,5 GW in April 2014. The Japanese government emphasized its strong will to support renewable energies and cooperation in this growing business field in its new Strategic Energy Plan from April 2014. We provide knowledge on the Japanese business conditions, laws and regulations, about the research landscape, possible cooperation partners and have a wide network of experts assisting companies from all over the world in doing business in and with Japan.
