proTechnicale – Empowering Young Women to Build Careers in STEM

Currently, only about 20% of students enrolled in STEM degree programs are women — a significant talent pool that remains underrepresented. This is precisely the gap proTechnicale addresses. Since 2011, the program has encouraged young women to pursue studies in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and engineering — with measurable impact: approximately 90% of proTechnicale graduates go on to study a STEM subject.

Since September 2025, proTechnicale has been part of ZAL GmbH, the Hamburg Center for Applied Aeronautical Research.

proTechnicale Classic is designed for young women who have just completed their A-levels. It offers an eleven-month orientation year in Hamburg focused on academic and career exploration. Up to 15 participants from Germany and abroad live together in shared apartments and learn at the ZAL TechCenter, one of the world’s leading aviation research facilities, and other places. The program combines STEM seminars, internships, and personal development workshops. Company visits, university excursions, and direct interaction with female STEM role models enable participants to build valuable professional networks early on.

proTechnicale School is a five-month digital orientation program for up to 20 students with an interest in STEM from grade 10 onwards, open nationwide. Alongside their regular schooling, participants explore topics such as renewable energy, aerospace, and programming. In addition to technical content, the program places strong emphasis on personal development, exchange with female role models, and structured mentoring.

proTechnicale Hamburg follows a similar format as pT School but is specifically tailored to students in Hamburg and the metropolitan area, offering more regional networking opportunities and direct connections to local companies.
