The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP makes materials fit for the future! We are a reliable partner to industry in the fields of bioeconomy and sustainability, energy transition and mobility, health and quality of life as well as industry and technology. Creative solutions are our approach to addressing the challenges of the present and the future - whether climate change, pandemics, energy transition, structural change or new mobility concepts.

With around 260 employees at seven locations, we are tackling these challenges and developing sustainable materials, customised processes and efficient technologies along the entire value chain - from the initial idea to the industry-ready prototype.

In the field of hydrogen technologies, we develop improved, more cost-effective catalyst materials at  the Center for Applied Nanotechnology CAN in Hamburg, produce them on a pilot plant scale and test them at system level. We also have extensive expertise in the field of membranes for electrocatalysis and in storage using tanks made of composite materials.

We are particularly interested in finding project partners to translate our developments into concrete applications and are looking for networking opportunities in the areas of material development, production and the testing of demonstrators and prototypes. Our focus is on CO2 reduction, hydrogen production through electrolysis and the further development of fuel cell technologies.
