Founded in 1993 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and politicians, the West Coast University of Applied Sciences now has 1,500 students in the fields of business and technology. There are currently eight programmes of study for bachelor's and master's degrees, including the B.Sc. in Electrical and Information Engineering, which qualifies future engineers for the wind energy sector. The West Coast University of Applied Sciences is also active in the Centre of Excellence for Wind Energy (CEwind), which brings together research activities from various universities in Schleswig-Holstein. The university also has contacts to 28 partner universities.
