„30 GW in 2030 – Starting Shot for the US Offshore Wind Industry

Tuesday, 8 June 2021 | 15:00 - 16:30h (CEST)

The United States have set a target of 30 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 as central element of the newly introduced plans by the Biden Administration to jumpstart offshore wind energy. This target could unlock a pathway to deploy a capacity of 110 GW or more by 2050, making the US one of the most important global players in the offshore wind business. The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) plans to advance new lease sales and complete the review of at least 16 Construction and Operations Plans (COPs) by 2025, representing more than 19 GW of offshore wind capacity to be installed off the US.

Significant investments are expected to establish a domestic offshore wind supply chain and upgrade the port infrastructure. New factories for the production of wind turbine nacelles, blades, towers, foundations and cables will be necessary to form the backbone of the industry. The domestic fabrication of the wind turbines as well as several specialised installation vessels will require additional amounts of steel.

In this webinar, our expert speakers from our member companies Hogan Lovells and DNV as well as internationally renowned industry organisations such as Business Network for Offshore Wind and World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) will give insight on the latest developments and different perspectives of the US offshore wind market.

  • Liz Burdock | President & CEO at Business Network for Offshore Wind: Current Status and Projects of Offshore Wind in the US
