EEHH-Webinar: Wind energy – driver of the energy transition in the Baltic region

Erneuerbare Energien Hamburg Clusteragentur GmbH
Veranstalter: Erneuerbare Energien Hamburg Clusteragentur GmbH
ZOOM

The Baltic states of Estonia and Latvia are striving for energy independence and are strongly committed to expanding renewable energies and electricity transmission grids. Their geographical location is particularly favorable for energy generation from onshore and offshore wind power. The switch from the Russian and Belarusian grid to the continental European electricity grid in February 2025 significantly increased the need to expand renewable energies and develop energy storage technologies.

In the field of offshore wind energy, Latvia is one of the countries in the Baltic region with the greatest potential for expansion. According to EU estimates, up to 14.5 GW could be installed off the Latvian coast. Together with Estonia, Latvia is planning to build a transnational offshore wind project called ELWIND. The Estonian government has set itself the goal of covering at least 50 percent of its energy consumption from renewable sources and intends to invest heavily in renewable energies. With the help of the European Investment Bank, the Estonian company Enefit Green is building the largest onshore wind farm in the Baltic States, “Tootsi” (800 MW).

Collaboration with the countries bordering the Baltic Sea plays a central role in the EEHH Cluster’s internationalization strategy, with a strong focus on wind energy. Together with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and Enterprise Estonia, the EEHH Cluster is launching a series of webinars to highlight the dynamic growth of the Baltic wind energy sector.

In a total of three sessions, we will bring together leading experts and companies from both regions to provide valuable insights into regulatory frameworks, project pipelines, and market developments. Participants will also discuss major challenges—such as grid connections—and explore opportunities for market entry and partnerships in this promising region.

The first webinar will focus on the status of wind energy and invite project developers to share their perspectives on the steps needed to accelerate the wind energy expansion in the Baltic region. Participation is free of charge.

Upcoming sessions:

1st Quartel of 2026: Grid connection – backbone of the interconnected energy system

2nd Quartel of 2026: Unlocking the full benefits of innovation and digitalization for wind energy
